Born in London in 1945.
He studied fashion and stage photography and opened his studio at the age of 19.
Photographed Marianne Faithfull, one of the pop icons of the 60s.
She introduced him to Mick Jagger, and he became the official photographer for the Rolling Stones in the mid to late 1960s.
She photographed the covers of their albums 'Out Of Our Heads', 'December's Children (And Everybody's)', 'Got Live If You Want It! Green Grass)'.
He has also worked for The Yardbirds, Traffic, Free, Jimi Hendrix.... He has also photographed many British musicians since the 1970s, including Elton John, Kate Bush, and Eurythmics.
His cover/inner sleeve for George Harrison's 'Cloud Nine' album in 1987 was highly acclaimed.
Exhibitions of his work have been held not only in his home country but also in Europe and the U.S., and he once held a talk show in Tokyo [Gered Mankowitz Photography Exhibition], where he also visited Japan.
The cover of the Japanese compilation 'The Rolling Stones Connection' is also his work.
